DIPHU, Jan 23: In a boost to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Karbi Anglong, as many as 32 workers from opposition parties formally joined the BJP on Friday.
The joining ceremony was held at the private residence of Richard Tokbi, Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
The new entrants are largely from the Duarbagori MAC constituency and include 22 former Congress members and 10 former members of the All Party Hill Leaders Conference.
Their induction is being seen as a notable shift in the local political landscape.
Among those who joined the BJP were several prominent local leaders, including Robinson Singnar, former APHLC Bokajan LAC vice president and advisor for APHLC Duarbagori; Khoysing Kathar, president of Thedong PCC; Narson Phangcho, vice president of PCC at Thedong polling station; and Rosison Tokbi, general secretary of Deithor PCC.
Welcoming the new members, Richard Tokbi said their decision reflected growing public confidence in the development-oriented governance of the BJP.
He attributed the shift to the leadership of chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and KAAC Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang, whose initiatives, he said, have strengthened trust at the grassroots level.
The programme was attended by several local leaders and party functionaries, including VDC chairman Sarkoi Rongphar, Deithor Town Committee vice chairman Stone Son Rongpi and Duarbagori Mandal secretary Mongolsing Rongpi, who were present to witness the induction.
