GUWAHATI, Feb 10: The railway protection force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) rescued two women and six minors during ongoing checking and drives conducted from February 6 to 8 at different trains and railway stations.
During January, RPF of NFR rescued 41 minor boys and girls and six ladies with the arrest of two human traffickers. The rescued women and children were handed over to the respective Child Line/NGOs, parents and the government railway police.
In a recent incident on February 7, the RPF staff of the Rangapara North Railway Station rescued two minors, who had run away from their homes along with a lady from the station. On the same day, RPF staff of New Coochbehar Station rescued one minor girl who had also run away from her home, from the station. All the rescued minors along with the lady were handed over to the government railway police of Rangapara North and an NGO of Coochbehar for their safe custody.
On February 6, the RPF team of Alipurduar Jn., New Bongaigaon and Dharmanagar railway station conducted checks at the respective railway stations. During the check they rescued three minors, one each from the respective railway stations. Later, the rescued minors were handed over to Childline and parents for safe custody.
On February 8, the RPF of Chaparmukh Railway station rescued one lady from the  Chaparmukh Railway Station. The woman had reportedly run away from her home and was roaming about in the railway station. The RPF team of ‘Meri Saheli’ of NFR provides assistance to the women passengers travelling alone in trains.
Preventive measures are being taken to take in case children in need of care and protection are found in trains and railway premises. RPF carries on a relentless fight against criminals in protecting railway passengers, remains vigilant for suspected persons involved in human trafficking as well as the movement of children in a suspicious manner or travelling alone without proper guardian etc.
