KOKRAJHAR, April 16: One person reportedly was shot dead and another person received serious bullet injuries due to close range firing by unknown miscreants late on Friday night at Kashudhola village under Parbatjhora subdivision in Kokrajhar district.
The incident took place on Friday night around 10:30 pm at Kashudhola village under Kazigaon police station in Kokrajhar district.
The deceased was identified as Benu Chandra Rabha (60).
According to sources from the area, a group of four unknown miscreants with hand-made arms entered the house of Benu Chandra Rabha in the night and fired indiscriminately from close range where Benu died on the spot and his son received serious bullet injuries in the incident.
Rabha was a farmer in his profession in the area.
The unknown miscreants used hand-made arms while murdering the Rabha in the night at his own house.
The injured person was rushed to the Dhubri civil hospital. He was identified as Hiro Jyoti Rabha.
Police rushed to the spot and started its investigation into the incident.
Some people knocked on the door of Benu Ch Rabha, who along with his family were sleeping at that time, additional superintendent of police Surjeet Singh Panesar said.
“Once he opened the door, the gunmen opened fire at him. Rabha died on the spot and his son Hiro Jyoti Rabha (23) sustained a bullet injury on his left leg. He was immediately shifted to the civil hospital in Dhubri,” Panesar said.
The motive behind the murder is not yet known and those involved in the shooting are being identified, he said.
An investigation is underway, he added.
BTR CEM Pramod Boro has strongly condemned the incident and urged the police administration for a strict action against the incident.
He said that the murder of a villager at Kashiabari was unfortunate and unwanted for the society.
He said that the anti-social activities should be checked and necessary measures would be initiated from police administration.
BTC executive member Reoreoa Narzihary visited the incident spot on Saturday morning and took stock of the situation. (With inputs from PTI)
