SIVASAGAR, May 19:
Several organisations and citizens in Sivasagar have demanded CBI probe into the sub-inspector Junmoni Rabha’s death in an accident in mysterious circumstances in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday in Nagaon district.
Bharati Saikia, a senior leader of APCC, has told this correspondent that a judicial inquiry can only satisfy the people at the moment as it appears to be a planned murder. If the police department cannot guarantee the security of a woman police officer, how can it guarantee security to the common citizens, she questioned.
Pranjal Rajguru, Sivasagar district coordinator, Indian People’s Federation (Socialist), demanded a CBI enquiry as the circumstantial evidence seems to have proved that higher police officers and fake note mafias were involved in the crime.
CPI’s state secretary Kanak Gogoi has expressed shock at the death of an energetic young woman police officer. While condoling the death, he demanded a judicial probe into the case.
The state president of INTUC Purnakanta Buragohain, in a statement, said that it is an abject failure of the Home department of the state and hence the inquiry into Junmoni’s death should be done by an independent agency or CBI.
ARSU and other organizations demand CBI enquiry of SI Junmoni Rabha’s death.
Took out protest rally and submit memorandum to Assam CM

Our Boko correspondent adds: All Rabha Students Union, All Rabha Women Council, Sixth Schedule Demand Committee and other organisations took out a mass protest rally for justice of SI Junmoni Rabha’s death. Hundreds of the members along with ARSU secretary Pradip Rabha, Kamrup district ARSU secretary Ashok Nongbah, organise secretary Ankur K Rabha, vice president Namal Kumar Rabha, Kamburam Rabha, vice chairman of Kamrup Zila Parishad, Arjun Chetry, general member of RHAC, Lalita Rabha, president of Kamrup district ARWC, Bidya Rabha, president of Kamrup District SSDC and many other leaders of the organisations.
ARSU and other Rabha organisations have submitted a memorandum to Assam CM Himanta Bishwa Sharma through the Boko revenue circle officer. In the memorandum, ARSU, ARWC and SSDC demanded “SI Junmoni Rabha’s death investigation should be handed over to the CBI, the culprits should be arrested and given exemplary punishment according to the law and to provide a one-time assistance of Rs 1 crore to the family of Junmoni Rabha and provide employment to the family by the state government”.
It is to be mentioned here that the sub inspector and in-charge of Morikolong police outpost Junmoni Rabha was killed in a horrific road accident at Jakhalabandha area on Tuesday at around 2:00 am.
Pradip Rabha, general secretary, ARSU alleged that they have come to know that SI Junmoni Rabha’s death was not because of an accident, but there was a conspiracy behind her death.
“We strongly condemn this brutal incident and we will protest for justice until the culprits are arrested and punished according to the law,” added Pradip Rabha.
Rabha also alleged that a nexus of duplicate gold and duplicate rupees smuggling and some police officers are also involved in this brutal incident and this is a treason against the country.
“So, we the Rabha Students’ Union urge the Assam CM to unroot the nexus of the duplicate money and gold smuggling,” added Pradip Rabha.
“DGP G P Singh already handed over the case to the CID, but we want it investigated by CBI, because the CID is also a part of Assam Police,” added Pradip Rabha.
“We also came to know that the Haibargaon police station in-charge Abhajyoti Rabha was also with her that night at around 12:00 pm, so CID should interrogate him. We suspect that he was also involved in this suspicious accident,” alleged Pradip Rabha.
