HOJAI, April 19: Hojai district recorded a voters’ turnout of 66.79 per cent till 5 pm on Friday.
The first phase of the Lok Sabha elections passed off peacefully in Hojai district under Kaziranga Consistuency on Friday.
Of the total 741842 voters in the district, 495512 have cast their vote in during the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls held in five constituencies in the state on Wednesday. While the percentage of voting in the Binnakandi Legislative Assembly constituency is 71.91 per cent, Hojai Legislative Assembly constituency and Lumding Legislative Assembly constituency recorded a polling percentage of 65 per cent and 63.2 per cent respectively. Many differently abled individuals also came to their respective polling stations to cast their votes.
Voting began at the district’s 814 polling stations in Hojai, Lumding and Binnakandi Legislative Assembly constituencies from 7 am. Voters could be seen standing in long queues waiting for their turn to cast their votes. However, even after the stipulated time of voting was over, a large number of voters could be still standing in queues in a few polling stations.
