DIBRUGARH, June 3: The flood situation in Dibrugarh district has turned grim, with widespread inundation reported across seven revenue circles — Dibrugarh East, Dibrugarh West, Chabua, Moran, Tengakhat, Naharkatia, and Tingkhong.
According to report, 96 villages have been affected, impacting a total of 24,432 people. The highest numbers are reported from Chabua (8,179), Tengakhat (4,932), and Dibrugarh West (3,362).
Meanwhile, three relief camps have been opened—one in Dibrugarh West and two in Naharkatia—sheltering 158 inmates.
Additionally, 40 relief distribution centres are operating, providing aid to 13,645 non-camp residents.
The highest number of non-camp beneficiaries is in Chabua (5,705), followed by Dibrugarh East and West.
Floodwaters have submerged 1,622.86 hectares of cropland, with Dibrugarh West being the worst-hit (1,402.13 hectares).
The animal population is also severely impacted, with 22,302 animals affected across the district.
While no human casualties have been confirmed, one child, Tanuj Mura (7 years) from 17 No. Line, Oakland TE, is reported missing.
Four persons have been rescued by SDRF, and 14 big animals have also been rescued.
Infrastructure damage includes 11 elementary schools, 12 Anganwadi Centres, 3 PHE (PWSS) units, 3 health sub-centres, 34 fisheries, and major damage to embankments and sericulture units.
The Bhekulajan–Tipling dyke and Bogamur Block Gaon embankment have been reported as breached.
The water level of the Brahmaputra River at Dibrugarh has shown a slight improvement.
As of 4 pm today, it is flowing at 105.13 metres, which is 57 cm below the danger level of 105.70 metres and remains steady. District authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, with relief and rescue operations underway.
