DIPHU, Aug 16: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with enthusiasm in Karbi Anglong district, in line with the rest of the country.
The district-level function was held at the playground of Diphu Government Boys’ Higher Secondary School, where Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang, hoisted the National Flag.
Attending the programme as Chief Guest, Ronghang extended greetings on Independence Day and paid tribute to the freedom fighters for their patriotism, dedication, and supreme sacrifice during the struggle for independence.
In his address, Ronghang highlighted various developmental schemes implemented by the government and shared details of ongoing works.
He urged the people to cooperate in building a new Karbi Anglong through the KAAC’s schemes of inclusive and equitable development across its 26 constituencies.
The celebrations featured cultural performances, while individuals who made notable contributions in different fields were felicitated and presented with awards.
The Chief Guest also took the salute at the march past presented by police personnel, NCC cadets, and students from schools and colleges.
Earlier, Ronghang paid floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Park, Diphu, to mark the occasion.
