81 st anniversary of ABSU founder president observed

KOKRAJHAR, Nov 1: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) observed the 81st birth anniversary of its
founder president, Agdari Baneswar Basumatary on Wednesday with a day-long programme held across
the state.
Baneswar Basumatary, a noted writer and one of the imminent intellectual of Bodo along with
Kanakeswar Narzary founded the students’ union on February 20, 1967 to work for the welfare and
upliftment of the Bodos and other down trodden communities in the state.
In Baksa,the central committee of the ABSU in association with Baksa district committee observed the
birth anniversary of Agdari Baneswar Basumatary at Koklabari near Mushalpur in Baksa that saw a well
gathering amongst the citizens.
ABSU president Dipen Boro hoisted the union’s flag amidst presence of a huge gathering. The great
student leader’s widow Puleshwari Swargiary also paid rich floral tributes to Basumatary.
Assam cabinet minister Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MCLA Mantu Boro, former MCLA Anip Basumatary and
senior citizens offered rich floral tributes to the great leader on the occasion.
An open discussion on the contribution and dedication of Agdari Baneswar Basumatary was also held as
part of the programme.
ABSU president Dipen Boro said “Our students’ union has been working dedicatedly for the welfare and
development of the citizens of the state since it’s inception. Agdari Baneswar Basumatary made several
contributions towards the upliftment and development of the Bodos. ABSU as well as all Bodos will
always remember his ideology and philosophy in the days to come.
In Kokrajhar, the district committee and anchalik committees of the ABSU observed the birth
anniversary with various programme scheduled at different places and offered homage to the great
leader.
