TEZPUR, Feb 14: In Tezpur, as many as 95 electors were wrongly deleted from the electoral roll of Polling Station No 168 (Old Ban Stage – North) under the 67 Tezpur Legislative Assembly Constituency after being incorrectly marked as “dead” during the Assam Special Revision, 2026, election officials said on Friday.
The error came to light following newspaper reports and electronic media coverage on Saturday, prompting the district election authorities to initiate an immediate verification. In response to the findings, the election office has issued a show-cause notice to the BLO, along with a separate notice to the BLO Supervisor for failure of supervisory oversight. Both officials have been directed to submit written explanations within three working days.

Officials informed that disciplinary action, including recommendations for suspension, would be initiated under Rule 6(1) of the Assam Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1964, if satisfactory explanations were not received within the stipulated period. The BLO in question is currently serving as a teacher under the Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam.
Meanwhile, corrective measures have been undertaken to safeguard the voting rights of the affected electors. All 95 voters have been contacted and steps have been taken to restore their names to the electoral roll in accordance with the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and guidelines issued by the Election Commission of India. Election officials said that the information was being shared to ensure transparency in the electoral administration and to prevent the spread of misinformation.
