AASAA Demow regional committee burns effigies of PM Modi, CM

DEMOW, Feb 10: Activists of the All Adivasi Students Association of Assam (AASAA), Demow Regional Committee, burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and State Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at Hari Pora Road, Demow, on Monday. The protest was held demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, an increase in the daily wages of tea labourers to Rs 551 and land pattas for tea labourers residing in tea estates.

The protesters raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, State Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma and the BJP during the demonstration.

Speaking to the media, Lalit Tanti, president of AASAA, Demow Regional Committee, said the present government had made various promises to fulfil these demands. He alleged that the promises have not been fulfilled yet and warned that if the government fails to meet the demands before the Assembly polls, the BJP-led government would face barriers in tea garden areas during election campaign meetings.

The programme was attended by Bidyajit Masua, secretary of AASAA, Demow Regional Committee, Junaki Pandav, president of AASAA, Sivasagar District Committee, along with other leaders of the AASAA Demow Regional Committee.
