DIBRUGARH, July 16: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Wednesday staged a protest at Chowkidinghee Chariali, expressing strong resentment over the poor condition of roads in Dibrugarh and the alleged inaction of the Public Works Department (PWD) and Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC).
The protest rally began from the AASU office and saw members carrying placards and banners while raising slogans against the PWD and DMC for failing to carry out necessary road repairs.
AASU members alleged that the roads across Dibrugarh are riddled with large potholes, making daily commute hazardous for residents.
“The PWD and DMC have completely failed in their responsibility. Despite repeated public complaints, there has been no progress in road construction or repair,” said a protesting member.
The organisation demanded immediate action, giving the concerned departments a 10-day deadline to begin road repair works.
“If the authorities fail to act within this period, AASU will intensify its agitation,” the member warned.
Highlighting public inconvenience, AASU further criticised the state of infrastructure in Dibrugarh, stating that despite being declared the second city a year ago, civic amenities remain in a dismal state.
