MORIGAON, Oct 26: In an effort to promote organic farming and enhance agricultural practices, Assam Agricultural University’s Plant Pathology department has developed two significant agricultural products: ‘TRICHODERMA,’ a biopesticide, and ‘BASILAS,’ a biofertilizer. These innovations have had a profound impact on the agri sector, particularly through the efforts of the Poohar Producer Company Ltd., a Morigaon-based producer company.

Dr Debajit Kalita, Director and Chief Scientist of Poohar Agro Producer Company Ltd., led a training camp focused on the “Field Evaluation of AAU-bio Formulations Against Rice Diseases” and the utilization of the two developed microbial bioformulations, ‘TRICHODERMA’ and ‘BASILAS.’ Dr Popy Bora, a senior scientist from Assam Agriculture University, provided guidance during the training camp, which took place at Borchala, Kahibari, Bhekahubori.

The joint effort of Poohar Agro Producer Company Ltd. and Assam Agriculture University aimed to highlight the benefits of using the developed biopesticides, particularly how they can improve the livelihoods of farmers. These biopesticides have the potential to significantly impact agricultural production and promote organic farming.

One of the notable outcomes of these newly developed microbial bioformulations is their ability to inspire unemployed youths to engage in farming as a viable livelihood option. By using these formulations, unemployed youths have achieved increased yields in their agricultural produce. It is expected that these biopesticides will play a pivotal role in encouraging and supporting organic farming practices among farmers, ultimately contributing to the growth of the agricultural sector.
