GUWAHATI, July 6: In a dramatic turn of events, an absconding police inspector, who was dismissed from service following allegations of sexual assault and the illicit photography of a minor girl inside a police station, was discovered unconscious at the Guwahati Railway station on Thursday, authorities reported.

Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel stumbled upon Biman Roy, the former officer in charge of Ghograpar police station in Nalbari district, in an unconscious state at the railway station. They promptly rushed him to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH), where he is currently receiving medical attention.
Dr Abhijeet Sharma, superintendent of GMCH, stated that Roy was brought to the hospital on Thursday morning and is still in a drowsy state.
“Preliminary health examinations revealed that he had suffered from food poisoning, but his other vital signs were stable,” Dr Sharma added.
Upon identification by a nephew, who was informed by Roy’s family members in Goalpara, the dismissed police officer’s presence at the hospital was confirmed. The nephew promptly alerted the authorities at the nearby Bhangagarh police station, situated close to GMCH.
Roy’s dismissal from service took place on June 29, subsequent to his suspension, after a 17-year-old girl made disturbing allegations of sexual molestation and the capturing of explicit photographs against him. The incident allegedly occurred inside the police station where she and a male accomplice were held in custody on June 21 in connection with a child marriage case.
A case was filed at the Nalbari police station, charging Roy with wrongful confinement, intentional insult to a woman’s modesty, and offenses under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO), pertaining to the use of children for pornographic purposes.
As investigations continue, authorities are closely monitoring Roy’s medical condition. The search for justice and the resolution of this alarming case of alleged misconduct within the police force remain a priority. (With inputs from PTI)
