KOKRAJHAR, Feb 15: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) celebrated its 56th foundation day on Wednesday with a day-long programme scheduled across the state to mark its glorious journey into the social services.
The central committee of the students union in association with the West Bengal state committee of ABSU organised the celebration at Khoardanga High School playground, Jalaneswari near Alipur Duar in West Bengal.
As part of the scheduled programme, ABSU president Dipen Boro hoisted the union flag followed by homage to martyrs on the occasion.
Notably, the students’ union was founded on 15th February in 1967 to render services for social development and welfare.
Assam cabinet minister and former ABSU president, Urkhao Gwra Brahma, chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR),Pramod Boro, founder of ABSU and retired principal of Kokrajhar Govt College, Dr Surath Narzary graced as guests in the open session of the foundation day celebration.
ABSU president Dipen Boro chaired the session which discussed thoroughly over the uplift and development of the Bodo community as well as a whole society.
ABSU president Boro extended his greetings to all citizens of the state on the occasion, and said that the students’ union is working dedicatedly towards the welfare and integration of the society since its inception. He emphasized the need for bringing about healthy welfare and quality education to uplift the society as a whole.
The CEM of Bodoland Territorial Region, Pramod Boro while extending his heartiest greetings to all its esteemed members of the All Bodo Students Union on the foundation day, also pointed out that the students’ union has been extending its invaluable service towards the welfare of Bodo society ever since its establishment in 1967. Since then the students’ organisation has been working dedicatedly towards the social integration. He further recalled the contributions of former ABSU leaders and members who have contributed a lot towards the social uplift.
“I’m delighted to attend an open discussion held to mark the occasion organised by the Central Committee of ABSU along with the West Bengal state committee of ABSU in West Bengal today.
“The organisation has been extending its invaluable service towards the welfare of Bodo society ever since its establishment in the year 1967. My best wishes to all the dedicated members of the organisation for their role in progress & development of the region”, added Boro.
In Kokrajhar also, the district committee of ABSU celebrated the foundation day at the playground of Kokrajhar Government HS & MP School.
District vice president Manin Brahma hoisted the union flag followed by paying homage to martyrs on the occasion.
An open discussion was also held with Manin Brahma as the chairman.
Among the prominent attendees on the occasion included ABSU vice president Khwrwmdao Wary, former ABSU leader and director of UN Academy, Kokrajhar Krishna Gopal Basumatary, former ABSU leader and professor of Kokrajhar Govt College, Dr Berlao K Karzee, founder of ABSU and noted writer Ranjit Kumar Borgoyary.
A rally was also carried out to mark the celebration which was started from Kokrajhar Govt HS & MP School playground and concluded at Bodofa children park near Indian Oil, Kokrajhar.
