KOKRAJHAR, June 28: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) has intensified its protest against the recent gang rape and brutal murder of two minor girls in Dudhnoi. The student union, along with several social organisations, began a two-day protest on Friday to condemn the heinous incident in Dudhnoi, Goalpara district.
The protest dharna took place at Bodofa Children Park along JD Road in Kokrajhar district, drawing participation from thousands of ABSU members, leaders of various social organisations, and concerned citizens. They held banners, placards, and chanted slogans demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators.
ABSU activists are demanding justice for the victims of the Dudhnoi gang rape case, which occurred on May 3. Three culprits allegedly raped two minor tribal girls and murdered Hiranya Khakhlary, the elder brother of one of the victims. Since then, ABSU has undertaken various agitation programs demanding death penalty for Dhan Ali Talukdar, Bahar Ali, and Rahaman Ali, expeditious trial in a fast-track court, Rs 20 lakh compensation for Hiranya Khakhlary’s family, who died protecting the victim, and a one-time financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the rape survivor.
Protesters chanted slogans such as ‘Shame on Assam Government’ and ‘Hang the Murderers’, expressing their outrage over the incident and demanding justice.
ABSU president Dipen Boro criticised the state government for not taking stern action against the culprits and stated that the student union will continue its protest dharna until justice is achieved for the victims. He condemned the gang rape and murder case involving Khakhlary and highlighted the delay in initiating decisive action against the identified culprits. He urged chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the state government to take bold steps to ensure justice in such incidents.
Meanwhile, ABSU president Dipen Boro also condemned the recent rape incident in Mazbat, Sonitpur, which occurred a few days ago in Assam.
