KOKRAJHAR, Jan 9: A tripartite review meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Neeraj Kumar Bansod, IAS, joint secretary, North East, Ministry of Home Affairs, between the Government of India, Government of Assam, BTC authority and representatives of ABSU, UBPO and Ex-NDFB Welfare Association through video conference to discuss the implementation of the Bodo Accord, 2020.
The students’ union raised key issues regarding time-bound implementation, including amendment of the Sixth Schedule to grant more autonomy to the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), inclusion of more villages, full-fledged status to BKWAC, village notification and elections, ST Hill status for Boro Kacharis in Karbi Anglong, school provincialisation, Forest Rights Act, 2006, ex-gratia for martyrs’ families, case withdrawals, release of six ex-NDFB members from jail, establishment of educational institutions, infrastructure development with Rs 1,500 crore and direct recruitment in Army, paramilitary, Assam police and other services.
A detailed review of the implementation of the Accord was conducted, but the signatory organisations emphasised speedy action, noting that six years have already passed. ABSU warned that any further delay would lead to continued democratic and peaceful movements.
Officials from the Government of Assam included Mukesh Chandra Sahu, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary, BTC and SN Choudhury, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Education Department. From BTC, Deputy Chief Rihon Daimary and Additional Principal Secretary Pranjiit Wary attended.
Signatory organisations were represented by Dipen Boro president, ABSU, Umesh Daimary vice president, ABSU, Khanindra Basumatary general secretary, ABSU, Dinesh Brahma assistant general secretary, ABSU, Abit Narzary speaker, ABSU, Rujugwrw Mochahary president, Ex-NDFB Welfare Association, Bilirthi Wary vice president, Ex-NDFB, Manaranjan Basumatary president, UBPO, Pitambar Brahma general secretary, UBPO and others. ABSU president Dipen Boro said the meeting reviewed the implementation of the BTR Accord and urged authorities to ensure its time-bound execution.
