DIPHU, April 10: The All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) on Wednesday unveiled its election manifesto, titled ‘Save Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao,’emphasising key priorities and commitments aimed at addressing the pressing issues faced by the hill districts of Assam.
At a ceremony held at Hotel Hempi in Birla, the APHLC president and candidate JI Kathar outlined the core principles and objectives of the manifesto, underscoring the urgent need for the implementation of Article 244 (A), a long-standing demand of the people of the three hill districts.
The manifesto also addresses critical issues such as opposing the dilution of the 6th Schedule, economic inequality, influx control, and enhancing the quality of education.
Kathar emphasized the party’s dedication to using various means, including awareness campaigns and legal action, to uphold tribal rights and combat electoral malpractices.
“We have been tirelessly using torchlight for the past seven years to enlighten the people and using scissors to cut down the lotus of the BJP and the names of illegal non-tribal voters from the voter list,” Kathar stated.
Highlighting the economic disparities in Karbi Anglong, Kathar stressed the need to address the unequal distribution of wealth and resources, ensuring that the benefits of development reach all sections of society.
Moreover, the manifesto pledges to combat dictatorship and promote decentralization of power in Karbi Anglong, aiming to empower local communities and promote participatory governance.
The APHLC’s manifesto also includes provisions for promoting local businesses, supporting indigenous women, farmers, and strengthening customary laws. It also advocates for the reservation of seats for women in the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), establishment of educational institutions, and measures to protect and conserve forests.
