MARGHERITA, Dec 1: On Friday, Lekhapani Forest Range Officer and her team arrested Ongtu Tonglim, approximately 26 years old, in the Lekhapani forest reserve while he was engaged in chopping down precious trees. The arrested individual, a resident of Kharsang, Arunachal Pradesh, had been involved in illegal tree felling in the forest reserve areas of Assam for several days.
During the arrest, officials from the Lekhapani forest range office discovered an electric saw in Ongtu Tonglim’s possession. A case with the number LP/17/2023-24, dated 01/12/2023, has been registered, and Ongtu Tonglim has been sent to judicial custody. The authorities are taking stringent actions to curb illegal activities that pose a threat to the region’s forest and biodiversity.
