GUWAHATI, Feb 6: The third Rashtriya Chitra Pradarshini ‘26, held at the Artist Guild in Guwahati from February 1 to 3, culminated with noted artist Noni Borpujari being presented the inaugural Shashidhar Saikia Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award.
The award, recognising Borpujari’s outstanding contributions to the field of art, was conferred during the exhibition’s valedictory function. Distinguished guests at the event included Manoj Roy, Aminul Haque, Pranajita Bujarbaruah and Tikendrajit Saikia.
In his acceptance speech, Borpujari expressed gratitude, saying, “This award is a booster for me. I pay my respects to Shashidhar Saikia, who pursued his artistic training in Kolkata despite hailing from a remote corner of Nagaon.” He also suggested that a compilation of Saikia’s paintings and writings be published, similar to the works of Nilpaban Barua.
The exhibition featured works by 25 artists, including Vijay Bhuyan, Hemanta Kumar Sahu, Jyoti Saikia Kalita and Ranjit Sinha. The event was curated by Dr Joon Bora. The award included a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a memento and a citation, which were presented to Borpujari.
