DIPHU, April 18: During chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma’s visit to Diphu, a three-member delegation of Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) comprising its president Chandra Kanta Terang, general secretary Jotson Bey and propaganda secretary Daniel Teron on April 16 submitted a memorandum to Dr. Sarma on three main points – autonomous state, eco-sensitive zone and inter-state border issue.
This was informed to the media by party president Chandra Kanta Terang during a press conference held here at ASDC central committee office on Monday.
Terang said a memorandum was submitted to CM Dr. Sarma during his visit to Diphu on April 16, on three main points i.e. the issue of Autonomous State as per article 244(A) of the Indian constitution, solution on the border issue with Meghalaya and declaration of eco sensitive zone and elephant corridor in the adjoining areas close to Kaziranga National Park.
Quoting from the press statement the party president said, the ASDC has been demanding Autonomous State since 1986. The present BJP party in its election manifesto in 2019 Parliamentary election, in the by-election to Baithalangso LA in 2016 and Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council election in 2017 has promised to create an Autonomous State and even stated that the issue is a national agenda, but it has not fulfilled its commitment. The ASDC therefore strongly believed that a spell of democratic mass is necessary to pressurise the Government on the issue.
He also said that CM has assured the delegation that no unilateral decision will be taken and that all concerned parties will be taken into confidence.
On the eco-sensitive zone and animal corridor affecting the two member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituencies of Socheng Dhenta and Duarbagori, the CM has directed the chief executive member of KAAC to depute a good lawyer to represent the views of the KAAC as a case is going on in the Supreme Court, the delegation members informed.
