ASHA convention programme held in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, March 30: The Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) convention programme organised under the banner of National Health Mission (NHM) by the District Health Society, Haflong at District Library Auditorium Hall was held on Tuesday. The programme was organised to felicitate the overall best performance of ASHA workers from three Block Primary Health Centres (BPHC) and one Urban Health Centre (UHC) of the district i.e. Langting BPHC, Mahur BPHC, Gunjung BPHC and Haflong UHC.

The programme was attended by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, EM Samuel Changsan, i/c Medical department as the chief guest of the programme. The programme was also attended by ADC Lalrohlu Khiengte, ACS, joint director Medical & Health Services Dr Dipali Barman, additional CM&HO Dr Sharifoon Nisha, SDM&HO Dr Leena Hakmaosa, DIO Dr L Vaiphei, DPM Rukimini Dipusa and ASHA from various parts of Dima Hasao.

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Dipali Barman and felicitation of the chief guest and guest of honour. A powerpoint presentation was made about the achievements and data reports performed by ASHA health workers in the district. The twelve best ASHA health workers from different BPHC and UHC of the district were felicitated and handed over certificates. On behalf of the World Health Organisation (WHO) bags and umbrellas were distributed as a mark of appreciation for their contribution during the vaccination drive of the Covid-19 pandemic.

EM Samuel Changsan, appreciating all the ASHA workers of the district congratulated the twelve ASHA health workers for their dedication. Speaking about how the performance of the medical department is based upon the performance of ASHA workers he said that they are the frontline workers at the grass root level. As a gesture of appreciation for their hard work, EM Changsan said that the council will award a scooty to the best performing ASHA health worker in each of the BPHC and UHC.

In the programme Dr Leena Hakmaosa also explained about the basic duties and guidelines for the ASHA health workers. Cultural events like Dimasa traditional dance ‘Baidima’, Manipuri dance, etc., were also performed by ASHA workers. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks.
