KOKRAJHAR, Dec 12: Poor women of Bodoland received a major boost on Friday as financial benefits under the Arunodoi 3.0 Scheme were formally distributed in Kokrajhar, the administrative centre of the Bodoland Territorial Region.
A total of 50,000 beneficiaries received the Arunodoi 3.0 benefits ceremonially.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the programme as the chief guest and inaugurated the event held at the Greenfield area in Bodofa Nagar.
The programme was attended by BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Mallah Baruah, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog, West Kokrajhar MLA and BTC EM Rabi Ram Narzary, Derhasat Basumatary, Mun Mun Brahma, former minister Pramila Rani Brahma, several BTC Executive Members, and Principal Secretary Mukesh Sahu.
A total of 1,20,854 beneficiaries in Kokrajhar district will receive support under the Orunodoi scheme. Simultaneously, distribution under the Assam Government’s Abhilashi Scheme was carried out across all five districts of BTC.
BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary thanked the chief minister for providing financial support to poor women and said that the promises made to the people of BTC would start getting fulfilled from January.
On land taxes, he said the previous government had increased rates heavily but BTC had resolved in an executive meeting to reduce the taxes.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said Orunodoi benefits could not be provided earlier due to the BTC elections.
He said the scheme will now cover all five BTR districts and that more than four lakh women beneficiaries in BTR have become eligible.
Across the state, 38 lakh women receive Orunodoi benefits.
He added that along with monetary support, beneficiaries will also receive lentils, sugar, salt and rice. “Now no woman will have to depend on anyone to run her household,” he said.
Additional assistance of ₹10,000 will be distributed on December 13 in Gossaigaon and on December 17 in Dotma.
The Orunodoi funds have been deposited into the accounts of 4,12,000 women beneficiaries in BTR.
The chief minister said the SIT had submitted the chargesheet in the Zubeen Garg case, ensuring justice, and added that the SIT report on Gaurav Gogoi would also be submitted.
He said a major new scheme, the ‘Babu Scheme’, will be announced on January 1.
A judicial inquiry has been ordered into the BTC Assembly attack incident. The inquiry will be conducted by retired Gauhati High Court judge Hirendra Nath Sharma.
