Guwahati, Nov 13: The Assam Cricket Association on Friday suspended four cricketers Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri after allegations of corruption linked to state cricket surfaced, triggering both a BCCI probe and criminal action. The Association also confirmed that an FIR was lodged with the Crime Branch in Guwahati on December 12, marking the start of a formal investigation.
According to the ACA, the four players, who have represented Assam at different competitive levels, are accused of attempting to influence and instigate members of the current Assam team during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. The tournament was held in Lucknow between November 26 and December 8. The alleged acts were flagged during the event, raising concerns over the integrity of the competition.
Following the complaint, the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s Anti Corruption and Security Unit launched an enquiry into the matter. At the same time, the ACA initiated criminal proceedings after what it described as prima facie evidence pointing to serious misconduct that could damage the credibility of cricket in the state.
As an immediate step, the ACA has barred the four players from taking part in all state and district level matches. The suspension also covers all cricket related roles, including coaching, umpiring and officiating assignments. The Association said the ban will remain in place until the investigation is completed or further orders are issued.
The ACA has directed all district cricket associations to strictly enforce the suspension and inform clubs and academies under their control to ensure compliance.
Reaffirming its stand, the ACA said it remains committed to protecting fair play and discipline in the sport. The Association added that it will continue to cooperate with the investigating agencies as the probe moves forward, signalling a firm stance against corruption in Assam cricket.
