Assam muster roll employee caught taking bribe

GUWAHATI, Nov 5: Sleuths of the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption on Saturday arrested one Sribas Ghosh, working as a muster roll employee in the office of the executive engineer, PWRD, Silchar & Udharbond Territorial Road Division.

The charges against the public servant state that he demanded Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant for processing the issue of labour license to the complainant.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the directorate for taking necessary legal action against the public servant, a release by the directorate stated.

Accordingly, a trap was laid on Saturday by a team from the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption, in the premises of the office of the executive engineer, PWRD, Silchar & Udharbond Territorial Road Division, and the accused Sribas Ghosh was caught red handed around 1:45 pm, immediately after he accepted Rs 5,000 as bribe from the complainant.

The tainted bribe money was immediately recovered from his possession and accordingly seized in presence of independent witnesses.

Accordingly, a case has been registered in ACB Police Station on Saturday vide ACB P.S. Case No. 53/2022 U/S 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) against Ghosh.

Necessary legal follow up action is underway, the release added.
