The NDA’s total in Zilla Parishads stood at 300 out of 376 declared seats, with over 76 percent vote share, while in the Anchalik Panchayats, the alliance won 1,436 seats with a 66 percent vote share, according to official figures.

The panchayat elections were held in two phases on May 2 and 7 across 27 districts of Assam, marking the first such exercise after the delimitation of constituencies.

The counting of votes began on May 12 and concluded on Tuesday, though final figures from two districts were yet to be compiled.

All results for the 21,920 Gram Panchayat (GP) member seats were also declared.

These contests did not carry party symbols, and Independent candidates were in the fray.

Of these, 10,883 seats were reserved for women. The elections also included 2,192 AP seats (1,124 for women) and 397 ZP seats (199 for women).

As many as 2,912 candidates, including 34 ZP, 311 AP, and 2,567 GP members, were elected unopposed.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma thanked the people of Assam for the massive mandate, crediting the win to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and people-centric policies.

In a social media post, Sarma said the results marked a 25 percent surge in vote share compared to the 2018 panchayat elections.

“These results follow our outstanding performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and pave the way for a strong showing in the 2026 assembly polls,” he said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also hailed the results in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Gratitude to the people of Assam for granting the NDA a historic victory in the Panchayat Election 2025,” he wrote. Shah described the outcome as an endorsement of Modi’s governance and congratulated Sarma, Assam BJP President Dilip Saikia, and BJP workers for carrying the message of development across the state.

“Together, we will build a developed Assam for all,” he added.

The administration had ensured tight security at all 39 counting centres across the state.

A total of 1,80,36,682 electors, including 89,65,010 women and 408 others, were eligible to vote at 25,007 polling stations. The voter turnout stood at 74.71 percent. (With inputs from PTI)
