Assam State Commission for Safai Karmacharis reviews welfare initiatives

TEZPUR, Nov 20: Chairperson of the Assam State Commission for Safai Karmacharis, Baijnath Basfore, and member Priyanka Basfore of the Assam State Commission for Safai Karmacharis under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, government of Assam, reviewed the welfare of safai karmacharis in Sonitpur district during a three-day visit.

As part of the visit, a meeting was held on Wednesday at the DC’s Office in the presence of district commissioner Ankur Bharali. The meeting discussed key issues such as timely wages, safety gear, housing, and education concerning safai karmacharis. Officials were urged to ensure access to government schemes and improve the living standards of safai karmacharis. Chairperson Basfore emphasised awareness and education, while Priyanka Basfore highlighted women’s empowerment. The DC reaffirmed the district’s commitment to supporting safai karmacharis under the Assam State Commission for Safai Karmacharis Act, 2023. 

The meeting was attended by chairpersons of Tezpur, Dhekiajuli, and Rangapara Municipal Boards, ADC Kabita Kakati Konwar, additional SP (crime) Moushumi Kalita, circle officers of the district, executive officers of Tezpur, Dhekiajuli, Rangapara, Jamugurihat, and Sootea Municipal Boards, heads of various departments of the district administration, officials, and representatives of organisations representing safai karmacharis, along with other stakeholders.
