400 birth anniv: Himanta urges people to write a para on Lachit Barphukan

Tezpur, June 12: For creating much awareness on the national hero Lachit Barphukan and to delve deep into the unparalleled contributions of the commander in chief of the Ahom army among the new generation, the Assam Government is initiating a year-long programme in connection with the 400th birth anniversary of the great national hero covering a series of programme besides writing essays on him.

After the Cabinet meeting held at the new convention centre at Batamari area here on Saturday, the two day long conference of the deputy commissioners of 35 districts of the state is undergoing from Sunday at the conference hall of the newly come up convention center.
The conference started with a welcome address by the chief secretary Jishnu Baruah and was chaired by the chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
However, revealing a series of decisions taken during Sundays’ DC’s conference, the chief minister informed that in the month of August on a particular day every citizen of the state would write a paragraph on Lachit Barphukan.
“Usually essay writing on the great hero remains confined within the students community only. However, as per today’s decision taken by the State Government it is expected that at least 30 percent people of every district will write a paragraph on Lachit Barphukan in connection with the 400th anniversary of the great hero,” he said.
Mentioning that the Government would take certain special measures for the uplift of the Government schools, he also urged all concerned to extend their helping hand in this regard.
He also said the Government is stressing on an error and partiality free selection process for the teacher’s award conferred every year on the day of Teachers’ day.
Suggesting teachers of the State to give more priority in giving quality education to the students he also maintained that teachers should remain away from any kind of agitation.
