DIBRUGARH, July 23: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced that 3,000 youths from the state will be trained in the Japanese language to enable them to secure employment in Japanese companies, both in Japan and within India.
The training initiative will be undertaken under the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CMFLIGHT) scheme. The information was shared during a press conference held in Dibrugarh.
Outlining the government’s plan, the Chief Minister said, “We have decided that in the first phase, 3,000 youths will be trained in the Japanese language to prepare them for jobs in Japanese companies. This initiative was proposed during the Advantage Assam summit, where three Japanese companies expressed interest in providing such training to our youths.”
Highlighting the economic prospects, Sarma stated that Assamese workers employed in Japan could earn as much as ₹2.5 lakh per month.
He said the total training cost per student would range between ₹3 lakh and ₹3.5 lakh, out of which the state government will provide a scholarship of ₹1.5 lakh.
The remaining amount can be financed through bank loans arranged under the scheme.
The Chief Minister added that while the programme primarily aims to create opportunities for Assamese youths to work in Japan, those who choose not to go abroad will still benefit from job opportunities in Japanese firms operating in India.
“This programme will open new avenues of employment and skill development for our youth,” Sarma said, “The scheme was deliberated during the Advantage Assam event and was approved today in the state cabinet meeting.”
The CMFLIGHT scheme is part of Assam Government’s broader push to equip its youth with global skills and facilitate overseas employment.
Training under the scheme is expected to begin shortly, with the first phase covering 3,000 students.
