Assam woman trampled to death

NAGAON, Dec 3: One married woman identified as Sumurmoni Garh (30), wife of Raju Garh was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants at Gangadisha area under Doboka forest range in Hojai district late on Friday night.

Sources claimed that the woman was sleeping in her house while the herd of wild jumbos came in search of food from nearby Doboka reserve forest and attacked her.

Subsequently, she was admitted to a local hospital in a very critical condition where she finally succumbed to her injuries after quite some time, sources said, adding that her earthly remains were sent to Nagaon BP Civil Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, police as well as local forest officials rushed to the spot and made all arrangements to send the herd back towards the jungle. It is worth mentioning that the herd of wild elephants have been creating panic among the villagers in nearby Doboka, Kathiatoli and Kampur area for over a couple of weeks.
