GUWAHATI, April 24: In the very beginning of the Assamese New Year, good news comes to the people of Assam. Assam’s own Jugal Kumar Bora has been appointed as the director (Technical) in MCL, Odisha under Coal India. Born in Nagaon, Bora is the first Assamese to be appointed to such a post. Dharmeshwar Bora and Reena Bora’s son Jugal Kumar Bora, a resident of Nagaon, completed his education at Sainik School in Goalpara and successfully completed his college and mining engineering courses at NIT Nagpur in the year 1983. He has several accolades to his name, including, Director General Mines Safety to first class mines manager Certificate of Competency in 1991, from JICA, Japan, He also completed the Competency Certificate of Coal Mining Safety, Amerita, George Washington University, and took up diploma in project management. From 1987 to 2004, Bora served in the interior mines of Tipong and Bargolai in the North East coal field. In addition, Bora served efficiently in BCCL Dhanbad from 2005 to 2015 as project officer, additional general manager and general manager. Bora, who served as general manager of North East Coal Sector from 2016 to 2020 and later as production general manager of Coal India, Kolkata, was recently appointed director (technical) of Mahanadi CoalFields Limited, the largest coal producing company under Coal India.
