TEZPUR, April 22: The Sonitpur Rangapara College, a pioneer higher educational institute of the district has secured the Autonomous status first ever in the district of Sonitpur on Tuesday. Principal of Rangapara College Dr Ranjan Kalita, informing the good news said, ‘Rangapara College has been conferred autonomous status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) for a period of five years, starting from the academic year 2025–2026 to 2029–2030.
The decision was made during the UGC Commission meeting held on April 3, 2025’. Affiliated with Gauhati University, Rangapara College has been recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and its role in providing higher education opportunities to economically and socially disadvantaged students in rural Assam.
Established in 1979, the college has been proactive in enhancing its academic standards, including achieving a NAAC B++ grade in 2023 and obtaining ISO 9001:2015 certification.
With autonomous status, Rangapara College gains the authority to design its own curriculum, conduct examinations, and manage academic affairs independently, while remaining affiliated with Gauhati University.
