KOKRAJHAR, Aug 11: An awareness camp on Hepatitis B and C was organised at Kokrajhar District Jail under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP) by the District Health Society, Kokrajhar on Monday.
The programme aimed to educate jail inmates and staff about the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of the diseases.
During the session, Dr Kaushik Das, Nodal Officer of NVHCP, Kokrajhar, explained the symptoms, modes of transmission, and available treatments for Hepatitis B and C. Mamoni Baishya, ICTC counsellor from RNB Civil Hospital, Kokrajhar, also addressed the gathering on HIV awareness and prevention.
The programme was attended by jail inmates and staff members, who actively participated in interactive discussions.
A medical screening camp was also conducted, during which inmates were screened for Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, HIV, and tuberculosis (TB) as part of the health outreach initiative.
The event sought to promote health awareness, early detection, and timely treatment among the prison population to improve overall public health outcomes.
