GUWAHATI, June 15: The newly laid double line between Bijni and Sorbhog stations, inspected by commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS)/NF circle Suvomoy Mitra, was commissioned under the Rangiya division of NF Railway on Tuesday. This development will significantly augment sectional capacity and improve connectivity in the region.

As part of the ongoing New Bongaigaon-Agthori via Rangiya 142.97 km doubling project, work on the Bijni-Sorbhog section is in progress. The project encompasses the construction of 75 major bridges, 38 minor bridges, and 19 new station buildings. The 18.99 km stretch between Bijni and Sorbhog includes the construction of 10 major bridges. The CRS conducted a successful speed trial, reaching a maximum speed of 135 km per hour, ensuring safety and efficiency.

The implementation of modern technologies, including a robust track structure utilising wide base Pre-stressed Concrete (PSC) sleepers and the introduction of sturdier Thick Web Switches, capable of handling higher speeds, has been instrumental in the construction of this double line territory.

With the double line in place, trains can now operate in both directions without stop-over crossings at stations, resulting in increased punctuality. Furthermore, reduced congestion enables the operation of more trains at enhanced speeds. Previously, the 26.91 km section between Pathsala and Nalbari was commissioned on May 24, 2023, further contributing to the improved connectivity of the north-east region.

The completion of the Bijni-Sorbhog double line serves to enhance rail capacity, streamline operations, and bolster connectivity, benefiting both goods and passenger traffic in the area.
