GUWAHATI, Oct 30: The commissioner of railway safety (CRS) completed the statutory inspection of the newly laid double-line section between Nalbari and Baihata stations on Tuesday. This inspection included station yards at Nalbari, Ghograpar, Rangiya Jn., Kendukona, and Baihata. Telecommunications, signaling, civil engineering works, and other safety equipment were thoroughly inspected by CRS/NF Circle, Sumeet Singhal, and his team. Following the inspection, CRS approved train operations through the newly laid railway lines. With the commissioning of this section, the entire route from New Bongaigaon to Agthori via Rangiya is now operational as a double-line section. This new second line will facilitate the transport of more freight and passenger traffic along this route, allowing more trains to operate at enhanced speeds, thus improving connectivity within a shorter time frame.

The work on the Nalbari & Baihata section was carried out as part of the 142.97 km New Bongaigaon–Agthori via Rangiya doubling project. The Nalbari & Baihata stretch measures 31.828 km (Up line: 31.176 km, DN line: 0.652 km) and includes 23 major bridges, 6 minor bridges, and 14 level crossing gates. There are three intermediate stations in this section: Ghograpar, Rangiya, and Kendukona. The second line was commissioned along with electrification. The commissioner of railway safety inspected the railway bridge, track fittings, P-way assets, electronic interlocking, relay rooms, and level crossings in the section, and also assessed staff readiness for train operations. CRS also interacted with station staff and inquired about their safety alertness.

Earlier, on September 3, 2024, the 6.22 km section between Sorbhog and Barpeta Road was commissioned; on June 3, 2024, the 21.40 km section between Barpeta Road and Pathsala; on March 20, 2024, the 10.15 km section between Baihata and Changsari; on December 26, 2023, the 7.48 km section between Changsari and Agthori; on June 13, 2023, the 18.99 km section between Bijni and Sorbhog; on May 24, 2023, the 26.91 km section between Pathsala and Nalbari; and on August 30, 2022, the 17.53 km section between New Bongaigaon and Bijni. The completion of this entire New Bongaigaon–Agthori via Rangiya section will significantly enhance northeast connectivity for transporting both people and materials across the nation. This second line will enable the transport of more freight and passenger traffic through the New Bongaigaon–Agthori via Rangiya route by reducing train crossing time and boosting economic activities.
