DIPHU, Nov 24: As part of the ongoing weeklong celebration of the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan, a statue was unveiled by the DC, Karbi Anglong, Madhumita Bhagawati at Sukapha Bhawan, Dharamnala here.

A mobile street play on Bir Lachit Barphukan by noted Assam and Karbi film actor Rajiv Kro and his team was also staged.
On the occasion races, awareness programmes and seminars on Barphukan, traditional sports, cleanliness drives, essay writing competitions and mobile street plays were organised at various locations.
“The noted actor Rajiv Kro himself played the part of Bir Lachit Barphukan in the street play and I am grateful to him for the same. The school students have responded positively to the celebration by participating in the quizzes, art and essay writing competitions, and so on,” the DC said.
Meanwhile, the Diphu Medical College & Hospital Employees Association with the staff on November 23 last also celebrated the 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Barphukan by organising games and sports at Diphu Govt Boys Higher Secondary School playground.
The events were 100 metre race, 200 metre race and 400 metre race for boys and girls. The competition was inaugurated by the superintendent of DMC&H, Dr. SI Deka.
The 1st Lachit Trophy Cricket Match was also played with Academy XI winning the match. Prizes for the competitions were given away by DC Madhumita Bhagabati.
