Weeklong celebration of 400th birth anniversary of Bir Lachit Borphukan begins in KA

DIPHU, Nov 18: Along with the rest of the state, the 400th birth anniversary celebration of Bir Lachit Borphukan began with a march past by the Assam Police personnel in Diphu town on Friday. The march past was kicked off from Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) stadium.

Later during the day, the deputy commissioner of Karbi Anglong, Madhumita Bhagawati detailed the programmes for the celebration here at Circuit House.

On October 18, a march past by the office of Superintendent of police, Karbi Anglong was taken out. On October 19, an essay writing competition will be organised for all schools and colleges.

On October 20, a marathon race has been organised by Assam Tea Tribes Students Association, Bokajan branch at Santipur playground via Silonijan Circle Office to Silonijan market Durga mandir; tree plantation drive to be conducted by special principal chief conservator of forests, Diphu and DFO in all educational institutions and government departments of Dhansiri, Diphu town areas and Tamulbari DCRF.

An awareness meeting on Swachhata and cleanliness drive by executive engineer (EE), PHE, Rural Water Supply Division, EE PHE Howraghat and EE PHE Bokajan division was held at Howraghat, Bakalia, Centre, Dokmoka, Langhin, Kathalguri and Phuloni markets. A voluntary blood donation camp will be organised by principal, Diphu Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H) and joint director of Health Services, Karbi Anglong at DMC&H in collaboration with Bharatiya Janata Yaba March & students’ union of DMC&H, at Bokajan town by Hindu Jagaran Minch and at Bokajan town by Pranab Jubilee College.

Child and women related issues will be discussed by district social welfare officer, Karbi Anglong in all child development projects offices and cleanliness drive will be conducted in Diphu town by Chamber of Commerce & Labour Officer, Bokajan in association with management of all tea estate and medical camp cum awareness at Nambor Nadi Tea Estate by Labour Officer, Bokajan in association with SDO (Civil).

Extempore speech will be organised by Axom Lakhika Samaroh at Sarsing Teron (Langkung Habe) Town Hall, Diphu. On October 21 and 23, the Karbi Anglong Man (Tai Speaking) Students Association will organise art competition at Banhin (Ahomoni) gaon, Silonijan, Bokajan Block and mobile street play by Karbi Cultural Society and Rajib Kro, a prominent film artist at Diphu Club, Birla market, Manja Tiniali, Diphu Govt. College and Taralangso gate and at Dillai Tiniali, Santipur Chairali, Silojijan, Lahorijan Chariali and Bokajan market and at Howraghat, Dokmoka markets, Bakalia ghat bazaar, Centre bazaar and Phuloni Chowk.

The DC said that on October 22, a marathon race will be organised by Assam Tea Tribe Students Association, Bokajan branch from Bogijan playground; an awareness programme on Bir Lachit Borphukan will be organised by vice chancellor, Assam University, Diphu campus and registrar of Assam University Diphu Campus at Assam University, Diphu campus; seminar on Lachit Borphukan at Farmers’s Growth Centre, Diphu by Diphu Government College, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Karbi Lammet Amei, Tiwa Manthan Tai, Dimasa Sahitya Sabha and Ashabur Rahman; traditional sports by district sports officer at Goraimari Stadium, Langhin; on October 24 unveiling of statue of Lachit Borphukan at Sukapha Bhawan, Dharamnala by Tai Ahom Cultural Society and on 25 open session and live screening of on Bir Lachit Borphukan from Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi at Town hall.
