HAFLONG, June 23: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders and workers in Haflong on Tuesday observed the Balidan Diwas of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, paying tribute to the founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh and remembering his contribution to national unity and integrity.
The programme was held with solemnity and reverence, with party leaders recalling Dr Mookerjee’s role in shaping nationalist thought and his commitment to safeguarding the constitutional and territorial integrity of the country.
According to an official statement, speakers highlighted Dr Mookerjee’s courage, patriotism and steadfast adherence to his principles, describing his life and sacrifice as a continuing source of inspiration for generations of Indians.
The commemorative event was convened by Konjit Kemprai, while the keynote address was delivered by Kulendra Daulagupu.
In his address, Daulagupu spoke on Dr Mookerjee’s vision of a strong and united India and called upon party workers to uphold his ideals through public service and dedication to society.
The programme was attended by Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Executive Member Donpainon Thaosen, Vice-President Liton Chakraborty, Executive Member Niranjan Hojai, Haflong Mandal President Shambunath Hojai and a large number of BJP karyakartas.
Floral tributes were offered to the portrait of Dr Mookerjee, with participants reaffirming their commitment to the values of nationalism, selfless service and dedication to the nation.
Speakers noted that Dr Mookerjee’s sacrifice and contributions continue to hold significance in the country’s political and social landscape and remain a guiding force for future generations.
The programme concluded with a collective remembrance of the leader’s legacy and a pledge to work towards the ideals he championed throughout his life.
