GUWAHATI, Aug 7: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that the BJP is set to emerge as a strong force in the upcoming election in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
Talking to reporters, Sarma said, “I have been touring different constituencies in the Bodoland region for the last few days. I have attended programs in at least 12 constituencies and I have witnessed the massive support for the BJP. Today, in Dotma, I saw a large crowd attending the program and I am immensely happy to see such a huge gathering.”
The Chief Minister argued that the atmosphere is in the favour of the BJP for the upcoming polls in the Bodoland region.
“I can sense that the BJP is going to perform very well in the local polls. The fate of elections changes every day. If the elections are held today in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), the BJP will come up with a spectacular performance,” he said.
Sarma also asserted that he will complete touring in all 40 constituencies in the Bodoland region by August 20.
He stated, “On August 21, I can clearly say on how many seats the BJP will field candidates here.”
The CM also said that the elections will be held for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) before the Durga Puja and a new regime will take the charge by September 28.
“Durga Puja will commence on September 29 and before that all formalities regarding BTC polls, counting will be completed. I can assure that the new team will take charge in the BTC by September 27 or 28—one or two days prior to Durga Puja festival,” he mentioned.
Sarma further said that he will not comment anything adverse against any opponents in the run-up of BTC polls.
He stated, “I will not say anything against Hagrama Mahillary and nor I will comment against Pramod Bodo and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) as it is a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).”
Reacting to the distribution of BJP tickets, Sarma said, “The state party president Dilip Saikia will decide on candidatures of aspirants for the BTC polls.”
