KOKRAJHAR, June 15: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) on Monday distributed financial assistance to the families of Bodoland martyrs at a programme held at Bishnu Rabha Kristi Sangha in Udalguri district.
Under the initiative, financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each was sanctioned to 204 beneficiaries in the first phase. During the programme, cheques were ceremonially handed over to six beneficiaries representing the families of Bodoland martyrs.
BTC Deputy Chief and MLA Rihon Daimari attended the event as the chief guest, while Speaker of the Bodoland Territorial Legislative Council (BTCLA) Tridip Daimari and BTC Executive Member Fresh Mushahary were present as guests of honour.
Udalguri District Commissioner Jay Vikash and other dignitaries also attended the programme.
In his welcome address, Mushahary reiterated the BTC government’s commitment to addressing the concerns and welfare of the families of Bodoland martyrs.
He said the administration, under the leadership of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, remains dedicated to honouring their sacrifices and extending support to their families.
Addressing the gathering, Rihon Daimari paid tribute to the Bodoland martyrs and said the formation of the Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC), the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) was made possible through their sacrifices.
He stated that the financial assistance programme was being implemented in fulfilment of a commitment made by the BTC government and assured that all genuine families of Bodoland martyrs would be covered in a phased manner.
Daimari appealed to families whose names have not yet been included in the beneficiary list to remain patient, assuring them that the government would continue the process until all eligible beneficiaries are covered.
He also urged recipients to utilise the financial assistance judiciously for their livelihood and long-term welfare.
Speaker Tridip Daimari expressed gratitude to the martyrs and their families for their sacrifices and assured continued support from the BTC government.
The programme was also attended by BTC MCLA Ratan Rabha, Superintendent of Police Padma Nath Baruah, BTC Secretary Bhaskar Jyoti Manta, senior officials, representatives of various organisations and members of the martyrs’ families.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.
