KOKRAJHAR, Oct 9: The first assembly session of the newly formed Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) government in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) was held on Thursday at the Council Assembly House, Bodofa Nwgwr in Kokrajhar.
A total of 37 of the 40 newly elected Members of the Council Legislative Assembly (MCLAs) took oath of office, including 28 from the BPF, five from the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL), and four from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and Deputy Chief Rihon Daimary were among those sworn in, marking the formal commencement of the new government.
Former BTC Chief Executive Member and UPPL president Pramod Boro, former BTC Executive Member Rakesh Brahma, and BJP leader Rekha Rani Das Boro were notably absent from the session.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Pro-tem Speaker Tridip Daimary.
During the session, Tridip Daimary, MCLA from Harisinga constituency in Udalguri district, was unanimously elected as Speaker of the BTC Legislative Assembly.
His nomination was proposed by BTC Chief and BPF president Hagrama Mohilary and supported by all members present. Daimary will serve his second term as Speaker under the leadership of Mohilary.
The session marks the beginning of a new political phase in the BTC, with Hagrama Mohilary returning to power after a gap of nearly five years.
