TEZPUR, Jan 9: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the District Industries and Commerce Centre (DI&CC), Sonitpur, successfully conducted an Industry Meet for prospective BIS licensees at Hotel KRC Palace, Tezpur.
The event saw participation from key stakeholders representing the rice, tea, and handloom industries, with discussions centered on the role of standardisation in enhancing quality, marketability, and global competitiveness.
The event began with a warm welcome by Morgan Meston, general manager of DI&CC Sonitpur, followed by a keynote address from MLA Tezpur, Prithviraj Rabha.
He highlighted the region’s immense potential and the critical role of adhering to quality standards in unlocking growth opportunities for regional products.
Shouvik Chanda, director and head of BIS Guwahati, provided an insightful address on BIS’s initiatives to support industries in meeting certification requirements.
The program featured detailed presentations by BIS officials, including Ashutosh Rai, deputy director, and Pritam Agarwala, assistant director, on ISI certification, management systems certification, and the broader scope of BIS standards.
Interactive sessions offered industry representatives an opportunity to address their concerns and explore how BIS certifications could enhance product quality and global acceptance.
Stakeholders from the rice sector emphasised the need for quality benchmarks to improve export readiness.
Tea industry participants focused on maintaining Assam’s global reputation as a premier tea producer, while representatives from the handloom industry discussed the benefits of standardisation in promoting traditional crafts to modern markets.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Pritam Agarwala, acknowledging the enthusiastic participation of stakeholders and their commitment to embracing BIS standards.
A networking lunch provided further opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
