GUWAHATI, May 25: Leading socio-cultural organisation Byatikram MASDO is all set to launch a 60-day anti-drugs awareness campaign in Assam. The campaign will be inaugurated by the Governor of Assam Jagdish Mukhi on June 4 from the Darbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan, Governor’s House, Guwahati, Assam. The preparations for the awareness campaign are already underway. Earlier, Byatikram MASDO had successfully launched a three-month anti-honking prevention campaign titled ‘No Horn Please’ in 2018.

The anti-drugs awareness campaign will be attended by MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, founder of Gate Hospital Dr. Bedabrata Pathak, NEDFi chairman and managing director PVSLN Murty, State Bank of India chief general manager RS Ramesh, and others. A delegation from Byatikram MASDO held a long discussion with the director-general of police (DGP) Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta to discuss the issues related to the programme. The delegation was accompanied by the advisor of Byatikram MASDO Manisha Hazarika, founder president Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, organising secretary Kaveri Sharma Barua, and Disha Chowdhury. The director-general of police has assured all possible cooperation from the police department in implementing the anti-drug awareness campaign.

Post-meeting with DGP, Dr Saumen Bharatiya said, “Our Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma’s dream project is a drug-free Assam. The Byatikram MASDO’s Anti-Drugs Awareness Campaign is intended to support that great cause.”

“This is just the beginning. It will then gradually expand to the entire Assam. It will be a huge loss to society if the younger generation cannot be guided in the matter of drug addiction,” said Manisha Hazarika.

This campaign aims to keep the youth away from drugs. Legendary singer Jayanta Hazarika’s son Mayukh Hazarika has already composed and dubbed an awareness song on the anti-drug campaign. All members of the community can cooperate in this campaign. They can be contacted at 7399002444.
