SILCHAR, April 13: Adding another feather in the cap, the Cachar district administration has secured the third position as the ‘Best performing District’ under PM SVANidhi 50 days challenge. This was announced on Sunday by the Assam State Urban Livelihoods Mission Society (DAY- NULM, Assam). Bongaigaon and Dhemaji achieved 1st and 2nd position respectively in the 50 days challenge.
Informing this, DAY- NULM, Assam wrote, “Based on the performance of all districts and ULBs during the 50 days assessment period, the winners of the ‘PM SVANidhi 50 Days Challenge’ were determined. Apart from the ‘Best Performing District’, ‘Individual Awards’ were also given to three best performing executive officers cum CPOs among 25 HQ ULBs (Group I).
It’s worth mentioning that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Cachar has yet again shown that it can outperform all. The district has been awarded the best performing district by DoHUA under PMAY category. Silchar Municipality has been declared best performing under Group A. Lakhipur Municipality has also been awarded best performing in the MB Group B as well. The team headed by DC Keerthi Jalli credits it to the tireless efforts of the team including executive officers Jessica Lalsim, Ruth Lienglong ACS, CPO Mehboob Laskar and Junaid Barbhuiyan, GPS coordinators and municipal staff constantly motivating beneficiaries to complete construction within time limit.
It is pertinent to mention that as per the performance evaluated of all districts/ ULBsDAs from January 1, 2022 till February 19, 2022, under the winners of the 50 Days Challenge, the following winners were announced:
In the district level award category Karimganj District won the 1st prize, while Cachar and Udalguri districts got the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively.
In the ULP level award category for top 3 performing ULBs of Group A (ULBs with more than 1000 approved beneficiaries), Karimganj MB/ DA got the 1st rank, followed by Silchar MB/ DA and Dhubri MB.
In the ULB level award category for top 3 performing ULBs of Group B (ULBs with less than 1000 approved beneficiaries), rank 1 went to Lakhipur MP (Cachar District), while Sivasagar MB and Margherita MB got the 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
Expressing her views, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli said, “This is indeed good news for us that Cachar has earned position as ‘Best performing District’ under PM SVANidhi 50 days challenge. I would like to thank each and every employee associated with this project as well as the beneficiaries. I am hopeful that the beneficiaries were able to usher in a meaningful change in their livelihood. It’s a long road to go and we are hopeful of much better performances in the near future.”
Regarding this as a great achievement, Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy and MLA Dipayan Chakraborty showered praises upon the deputy commissioner and her entire team for the effort put in by them to earn accolades for Cachar. They too assured all sorts of assistance to take Cachar to the pinnacle in its holistic aspect.
It needs to be mentioned that the PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) was launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs on June 01, 2020 for providing affordable working capital loan to street vendors to resume their livelihoods that have been adversely affected due to Covid-19 lockdown. The new PM Svanidhi Yojana is a welcome step to change this scenario and empower them with micro-credit to help them in their personal as well business needs. The main intention of this scheme is to provide small credits for working capital loan to the street vendors, wherein they can take a collateral-free loan for one year and at low-interest rates. This can help them to revive their businesses and earn their livelihood back.
Further, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is an initiative by the Government of India in which affordable housing will be provided to the urban poor with a target of building 2 crore affordable houses by March 31, 2022.
