GUWAHATI, Nov 21: The North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) celebrated Heritage Week on Friday with a one-day programme at Khasmaipur, Maibang inaugurated by Chief Executive Member (CEM) Debolal Gorlosa.
Speaking at the event, Gorlosa highlighted the importance of preserving the rich cultural traditions of the Dimasa community and urged citizens, especially children to carry forward their heritage. He stressed safeguarding the mother tongue and historical artefacts of Khaspur noting that many cultural items have been lost over time.
The celebration included a Literary Competition on Cultural Heritage, featuring Folk Stories, Folklore Recitation and Sol Badaiba (Traditional Cultural Oration). In a significant move, CEM Gorlosa announced an increase in prize money for the competitions: Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 5,000 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions, respectively, up from the earlier Rs 1,500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 500.
The event was convened by Adhunika Khersa and attended by Executive Member Monjit Naiding, MAC Monjoy Langthasa, local officials and the Gaon Bura of Khasmaipur.
