BOKAJAN, Nov 26: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang cautioned the locals against individuals who misled people by claiming that the “Purthimi Akemang” initiative is a tactic to deny land pattas to the indigenous people.
Attending the land pattas distribution under the Purthimi Akemang initiative by the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) in a function at Japralangso Cultural Complex, Karbi Anglong, Ronghang urged the people to avoid repeating the chaos of the 1986 autonomous state movement during which there were killings, boycotts, and social disorder.
He said that a group of individuals staged a sit-in protest demonstration in front of the Land and Revenue Phuloni Circle Office claiming that the land documents being distributed by the Council were fakes and misleading the public.
The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KAAC, Tuliram Ronghang also mentioned, “Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council will provide free land documents to indigenous people. To achieve this, the Council will absorb the costs, ensuring that no fees are incurred during the official process. The Council plans to distribute 1 lakh free land pattas across all legislative constituencies- Amri, Rongkhang, Howraghat, Diphu, and Bokajan. For all those who missed the V-form submission, a second phase of ‘Phurthimi Akemang’ will be initiated, aiming to provide pattas to all indigenous people within three years.”
CEM Ronghang recently announced that indigenous people living along the Assam-Nagaland border will receive free land pattas. He emphasised that this decision is final and cannot be overturned, as the land belongs to the KAAC.
Notably, the Council anticipates a revenue loss of Rs 6 crores due to this initiative. However, CEM Ronghang emphasised that this loss will ultimately benefit the masses.
Regarding development initiatives, CEM Ronghang announced that construction work on the Borpung-Tarapung road has commenced, along with the Dokmoka to Rongmongve (Kaziranga) road project. The road will be completed within a year. Additionally, a 100-bedded hospital in Bokajan is nearing completion. The Council plans to focus on school buildings, road infrastructure, and job creation to drive development in the district.
CEM Ronghang said the prevalent bandh culture in Karbi Anglong had hindered development in the past. However, the Council is committed to making progress and will demonstrate its commitment through actions rather than words.
The event was attended by Bokajan MLA and Assam Legislative Assembly deputy speaker, Dr Numal Momin; MLAs, Darsing Ronghang and Bidyasing Engleng; former MP Horensing Bey and others.
