DIPHU, July 31: The Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang released books by Chandra Kanta Terang Alotun and Karbi Anglongor Dastabez in a function held here at Farmers Growth Centre on Sunday.
The book “Chandra Kanta Terang alotun” is a collection of lyrics of 38 songs of noted politician and singer Chandra Kanta Terang, while “Karbi Anglongor Dastabez” is a collection of 20 articles on different topics written in Assamese by the editor of Assamese daily Solangdo, Borsing Rongphar. The two books were compiled by editor Rongphar.
Releasing the books, the CEM said, “From a young age I have been listening to the songs of Chandra Kanta Terang who is one of the popular singers amongst the Karbis. I love listening to his songs. His songs are both patriotic and romantic. One of his popular songs I listened to is ‘Ripajap, pajap’ – a Karbi national patriotic song.”
The CEM also said, “Though Terang may be a politician (now president of Autonomous State Demand Committee), as a singer, songwriter and lyricist, I admire his personality and talent. He is an asset to Karbi Anglong.”
There was a host of noted book writers, songwriters, singers and litterateurs attending the function and in whose presence the CEM said that the Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC) had launched the Autonomous State movement at the outset.
“Though I may be in the BJP, it was the ASDC that gave birth to the Autonomous State movement for attaining Autonomous Statehood. The movement was raised by ASDC, Karbi Nimso Chingthur Asong (KNCA) and Karbi Students Association. The KAACHASDCOM came later,” the CEM said.
He also appreciated the work of editor Rongphar for bringing out several books on the socio-political issues of Karbi Anglong which will later become a record.
The programme was attended by former MLA and director of Centre for Karbi Studies, Dharamsing Teron; Padmashree Dhaneswar Engti; general secretary, Karbi Lammet Amei, Joysing Tokbi; president, Karbi Cultural Society, Chandrasing Kro and others.
