Central Library of Jagiroad College celebrated National Library Day

JAGIROAD, Aug 13: The Central Library of Jagiroad College celebrated National Library Day at the auditorium of Jagiroad College on Monday to commemorate the 132nd birth anniversary of Padmashri Dr SR Ranganathan. The event was chaired by the vice-principal of the college, Manoranjan Moulik. The program was inaugurated by lighting a lantern in front of the portrait of Dr Ranganathan, the father of library science. The event was moderated by associate librarian Nandita Goswami, and the invited speaker was Prof Khagen Gogoi, head of the department of History. Prof Gogoi, in his speech, spoke about various librarians of the world as well as Dr SR Ranganathan. He discussed the life and works of Dr Ranganathan. The event was attended by Dr Chittaranjan Sarkar, convener of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the college, along with a large number of teachers and students. Head of the Economics department, Prof Purushottam Bhandari, head of the Botany department, Prof Subrat Pal, associate professor of the English department, Dr Jeeta Barua, and assistant professor of the Assamese department, Dr Kanima Pathak, were also awarded certificates for donating books to the Central Library in previous years. Finally, several teachers participated in the book donation program and donated one book each to the Central Library.
