GUWAHATI, Sept 10: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday visited Golaghat district to review the preparations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-anticipated visit to Numaligarh.
An official statement from the state government informed that the Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Assam on September 14, during which he will inaugurate the newly built bamboo-based ethanol plant at Numaligarh and launch projects worth over ₹18,000 crore, expected to give a major boost to the state’s socio-economic development.

During his visit, Sarma thoroughly inspected the arrangements for the public meeting scheduled to be held at the Tanker Stand within the premises of the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL).
He directed district officials and various agencies involved in the event’s organisation to ensure all logistical aspects, including drinking water supply, sanitation facilities, vehicle parking, and first-aid services, are adequately provided for the massive gathering expected to exceed one lakh people.
The chief minister also reviewed security arrangements and instructed the police and district administration to take proactive measures to prevent traffic congestion near the venue during the Prime Minister’s programme.
The chief minister also participated in a high-level review meeting attended by Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, district officials, and representatives from concerned agencies overseeing the event’s preparations.
The gathering underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful event that reflects Assam’s hospitality and organisational capability.
Speaking to the media, Sarma highlighted the significance of the bamboo-based ethanol plant, which has been built at an estimated cost of ₹5,000 crore.
He further informed that along with this project, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth over ₹18,000 crore from Numaligarh and Mangaldai.
These initiatives, the Chief Minister remarked, are expected to open new avenues for industrial growth, employment generation, and infrastructure development in the state.
As a gesture of goodwill and advance welcome to the Prime Minister, Sarma planted a neem sapling along the Letekujan–Tanker Stand connecting road during his visit.
The act symbolised the state’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental conservation.
The official statement also mentioned the presence of senior political and administrative leaders during the inspection and review meeting.
Agriculture minister Atul Bora, finance minister Ajanta Neog, MP and state BJP president Dilip Saikia, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, and MLAs Mrinal Saikia, Bhabendra Nath Bharali, Manab Deka, and Biswajit Phukan were among the dignitaries who participated. Golaghat District Commissioner Pulak Mahanta, along with other senior officials, was also present to coordinate the preparations.
The chief minister’s visit reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to ensure the smooth execution of the Prime Minister’s programme while providing every facility required to welcome guests and citizens.
The state administration’s meticulous planning reflects Assam’s readiness to host a historic event that marks a significant milestone in its development journey.
