DIPHU, Aug 5: A team, representing the Karbi Anglong NC Hills Autonomous State Demand Committee on Friday left for Delhi to hold a sit-in-demonstration at Jantar Mantar to intensify the demand for a separate autonomous state for the hill districts. Along with the members of the Committee, the 300-member team is accompanied by representatives of the Karbi Students Association, Karbi So-arlo Amei, Karbi Riso Adorbar, Karbi Adorbar, Tiwa Adorbar, Karbi Unemployed Youth Association, Dimasa Students Union, Dimasa Mother Association, Jadikhe Naisho Hoshom and Dimasa Women Society.

Talking to media persons before leaving for Delhi at Diphu Railway Station, Committee President Ajit Timung said that the Indian constitution has made special provisions for granting autonomous state under Article 244(A). “It has been 30 years since the people of the three hill districts have been demanding an autonomous state. However, the only return to the peoples’ movement for the cause is nothing other than a repeated deprivation and betrayal,” Timung said.

Committee president Timung further said that the proposed sit-in-demonstration slated on August 8 is aimed to press the Centre to raise the issue in the ensuing Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Significantly, Timung extended his gratitude to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council Chief Executive Member Tuliram Ronghang and his council colleagues for their moral support for the cause.
