Congress Leader Dr. Mongve Rongpi, Several Others Join BJP

DIPHU, May 13: Congress leader Dr. Mongve Rongpi along with other leaders from the party joined the BJP at a programme held in the presence of Assam Pradesh BJP president Bhabesh Kalita in Diphu on Friday.

In presence of state BJP president, Kalita, Dr. Rongpi along with Opposition party workers of All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC), Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), CPI (ML) and Congress have joined the saffron at a joining programme held at BJP, East Karbi Anglong District Committee office, near ARTC 1st Gate, Diphu-Manja Road. 842 leaders and workers from other parties joined the BJP.

Among those who joined the saffron party were president of Lumbajong Block Congress Committee, Jagatsing Tokbi, former DHD leader Pranab Nunisa and Thongthang Thoungthang, an independent candidate in the last 2017 MAC election.

It may be mentioned here that Dr. Mongve Rongpi is the son of former MP and former chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and leader of CPI (ML), Dr. Jayanta Rongpi.

Dr. Mongve Rongpi was the convenor of Students & Youth Council. He first contested the MAC election from Singhason Member of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituency as independent supported by Hills State Demand Council (HSDC), but lost. Ahead of the Assembly Election in 2019 Dr. Mongve joined the Congress. For about three years he was in the Congress, but he could not withstand the wave of BJP and on May 13 left the Congress to join BJP. Dr. Mongve has changed his party twice.  But his father Dr. Jayanta Rongpi is still sticking to CPI (ML) party and an adviser to HSDC.

Speaking at the joining programme the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang said, “There are works to be done. There is the border issue, road and communication, potable drinking water facility and Article 244(A) of the Indian Constitution, the implementation of MoS of 2011 and the MoS of 2021. We have to take up all these issues.”

He also said there should be peace for development to take place. Both Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong should be equally developed.

Urging party workers and new members from other parties, the CEM said, “We need to strengthen the party led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, JP Nadda and for that we should all work together. The ‘three D’ – Delhi, Dispur and Diphu are ruled by BJP and this should continue,” the CEM said.

The CEM said the good deeds and the development activities of BJP government made the Opposition party workers join the BJP.

The state BJP president, Kalita said under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi huge change has come in the country. During the previous two years of Covid-19 pandemic, the government has been able to provide free Covid vaccines under the guidance of the Prime Minister.

The Assam chief minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has a special preference for the hill districts and under his guidance, Karbi Anglong has received lots of development.

Kalita said, “Vote will be on June 8 and on June 12 will be the counting will be done and after that, there will be no existence of Congress in Karbi Anglong as the BJP is going to come back to power at KAAC. The BJP will win in all the 26 MAC constituencies.”

Kalita congratulates the CEM, KAAC, Ronghang for successfully completing 5 years as CEM, saying, “I appreciate CEM Tuliram Ronghang as he has successfully completed five years as CEM during this tenure he has brought much change in Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

After the meeting here the state BJP president headed for Bokajan.
